Sculptra is a
procedure used to improve facial features and restore volume
where there are signs of facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy.
Facial fat
loss happens beneath the skin, resulting in sunken cheeks,
indentations and hollow eyes. Sculptra allows for the
restoration for these conditions.
Tiny particles
of PLA (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) are diluted in a suspension of
sterile water, which is then implanted into the skin. These
particles of PLA form new collagen in the skin, which adds
volume over time.
The injection
occurs below the surface of the skin in the area of the fat
loss. Sculptra provides the patient with an improved
thickness in skin and appearance of folds and sunken areas.
In order to
qualify for Sculptra, a skin test is not needed. |

The effects
are long-lasting, although some may require a series of
three to five treatments four to six weeks. Improvement in
contour occurs over the six months following the procedure
and can last up to 2 years.
A gradual
change is preferred by some, as opposed to an overnight
transformation. A Sculptra physician will be able to decide
if additional injections are needed after seeing the effects
of the first.
Sculptra has
minimal side effects, and requires no downtime. Temporary
bruising and swelling may occur but will subside over the
next few days. For those who are in need of a facial
restoration, Sculptra can be used with injections, Botox
cosmetic injections, and temporary injectable filler.
The end result
should be a much more youthful look, combining the thickness
and contouring process Sculptra provides. |
